Labor Day 2010

As long as I can remember my Dad's family has held their annual family reunion on Labor Day. I remember as a little girl going to the house of one of my great Aunt's for the reunion, there was so many people that I thought it was thousands. It was over one hundred but not thousands.

Now we have it at Noccalula Falls every year at this time where we all get together and eat lunch. It is always fun to talk to my aunts, uncles and cousins who I do not get to see except for this time of year.

Since the death of my Mom, my Dad and I have made it a tradition to go together every year. Sometimes other members of my family go with us but most of the time it is just Dad and I.

As for eating I am always able to find things I can eat and I always take a dessert. The Thacker's are wonderful cooks and I've found that if I have a good meal and yummy dessert I feel as if I've ate everything I wanted. It's hard to go to things such as this and sacrifice so don't do it, take what ever you have to so that you won't feel left out.

This time I took brownies from "Pamela's Brownie Mix" and they were good but I have to admitt that after making the "Betty Crocker" ones I don't like these as well.

Pamela's Chocolate Brownie Mix
This mix is for all chocolate lovers who are passionate about dessert! Creates rich and moist brownies, chocolate waffles, and decadent cookies…

INGREDIENTS: Molasses and Honey; Brown Rice Flour; Natural Process Cocoa Powder; White Rice Flour; Organic Chocolate Chunks (Organic Natural Evaporated Cane Sugar, Organic Cocoa Paste, Organic Cocoa Butter, Non-GMO Soy Lecithin/ emulsifier, Organic Vanilla. Chunks may contain traces of milk protein due to manufacturing equipment.); Tapioca Starch; Sweet Rice Flour; Potato Starch; Gluten-free Natural Flavor (contains corn derivative); Sea Salt; Xanthan Gum; Baking Soda.

I have to let you in on a little secret, I always add things to my GF baking mixes. Usually to brownies I had a large dip or about 1/3 cup of sour cream. I think low fat buttermilk would work too, I've never tried it but may in the future. To me it just makes an mix moister.

My Family:
